He belongs to a family of fencers, of Genoese origin: Mario Aldo (the father), Aldo (the grandfather) and three cousins of his father, Mario Tullio, Tommaso and Carlo, participated in past editions of the Olympics always in the saber (with the exception of Carlo , the only foil player of the family), all getting on the podium in the team competition.
